Old Vocational High School Building Up for Sale

Hennepin County has placed the Century Plaza building on the market. Originally opened in 1932 as the Miller Vocational High School, the large Art Deco building at 1101 3rd Avenue South prepared thousands of Minneapolis high school and adult students for dozens of different careers. The school district closed Vocational in 1976 and for a short time it continued as a vo-tech under the name Minneapolis Area Vocational-Technical Institute, before closing in 1982. It was converted to office space in 1984. Although a 2007 study determined the building is not eligible for historic designation, the County has been approached by several parties interested in the building, so it’s likely to endure for the near future.
