Camden Library, 1930s
The Camden Library was housed in the Webber Park Field House (built 1910, razed in 1979 for a swimming pool). It first was housed in the 2nd floor of the field house but the library needed more room and in 1954 the library acquired the rest of the building from the Minneapolis Park Board and renamed it Webber Park Library. In 1979 the field house was razed to make way for a new swimmming pool and a new Webber Park Library was built in 1980. The Webber Park Library closed this fall due to structural issues and will be razed.
Webber Park Library reopened on December 21 in a temporary location, in Camden Center at 4203 Webber Parkway. Services in the space will include a browsing collection for adults and children, computers, study and work space, and reserve book pick-up. The library will continue to be open three days each week: Tuesday and Thursday from 12-8, and Saturday from 9-5.
Join us on Saturday, Jan. 11, 1-3 p.m., at Camden Center, 4203 Webber Pkwy., Minneapolis, to celebrate the opening of this new temporary location for Webber Park Library. Remarks, music and refreshments.
