Hotel Roosevelt, 1222 LaSalle Ave
This photo from our slide collection was taken in May 1970. The building was built in 1899 as the Roosevelt Flats at 1222 Mary Place. In 1920 a new foundation was constructed and the apartment was moved to a new spot on the lot. That same year, Mary Place and Vine Place became LaSalle Avenue (winning out against the proposal to name the streets Blaisdell). The hotel was demolished in 1979 as part of the Metro Center ‘85 plan, an urban redevelopment plan that would bring high density housing and green space to the Loring Park area.
