Gay Pride Month Events at HCL
Author Events at Minneapolis Central Library in Celebration of Gay Pride Month
Two opportunities to support, hear from and discuss contemporary politics with GLBT writers will be at Minneapolis Central this June in celebration of Gay Pride Month. Queer Voices (Tues., 6/21, 7-9pm) features authors and poets from Intermedia Arts’ Queer Voices reading series in the past year. Queer Twin Cities (Thurs., 6/23, 7-9pm) features several authors from Queer Twin Cities. The program also will include a slideshow, video clips and Q&A session. For more information about these programs, please visit the Events & Classes page. This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The above letter is from Ernie Pesis the owner of an early gay bar in Minneapolis, Sutton’s Place. To learn more about GLBT history in Minnesota, check out this awesome webpage created by Stewart Van Cleve. We have clippings files and/or menus from some of the other early gay bars in Minneapolis in Special Collections. We also have an oral history by Clement Haupers as well, which is available in Special Collections.
There is also a history book coming out from the University of Minnesota Press.
