Quonset Hut Village Dog Ban- Lyndale and 6th Avenue North, 1947

Controversy struck the quonset village on Lyndale Avenue North in April of 1947.  Screws the dog (top) bit a neighborhood child after the child tried to take his bone away from him.  Earlier Screws had also barked at a delivery man.  These instances drove the general housing manager to ban dogs from the housing project.  The other dog in the village, Gypsy (below) was blameless and her owners did not want to give her up.  A petition asking to drop the ban was eventually sent to Mayor Humphrey.  It was signed by 86 residents, including the parents of the child bit by Screws.
