Quarterback Club Ad, 1968
In 1967 some of the Quarterback Club stockholders were Minnesota Vikings Dean Derby, Grady Alderman, Mick Tingelhoff, Larry Bowie, Ed Sharockman, Bill Brown, Tommy Mason and Norm Van Brocklin.
The North Mankato location grossed $10,000 monthly according to a February 17, 1967 article by Jim Klobuchar.
At the grand opening of the Oak Street location in April 1967 a peaceful protest gathered. The protesters were University of Minnesota architecture students who referred to the structure as “neo-ugly.” One sign read, “Ban the Bomb,” referring to the signature bomb-shaped football dome that was the centerpiece of each structure. The owners disagreed saying the structure fit in with the surrounding neighborhood and Memorial Stadium.
The Northfield location is still in business sans football dome.
