Victorian Holiday Open House at the Burwell House
Owned by the city of Minnetonka and run by the Minnetonka Historical Society, the Burwell house is known for its Summer Ice Cream Social and Winter Open House. The most recent holiday open house was on December 4th right after a freshly fallen snow. The house has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to it’s 1894 appearance and is staffed by dedicated, friendly and knowledgable volunteers.
The Burwell house is a piece of Minnetonka’s milling history when the Minnetonka Mills were located on Minnehaha Creek. In 1876 Charles Burwell came to Minnetonka to manage the newly formed Minnetonkta Mill Company. Burwell and his wife Mary built their home on the creek in 1883 and the house stayed in the family until 1958. There are plans to further restore the historic Minnetonka Mills area.
